Frequently asked questions

How DoctorList works, who runs it, and what claiming a listing actually does.

Is DoctorList really free?

Yes. Listing your practice, claiming an existing listing, adding your website and booking link, and writing your bio are all free — no paid tier, no pay-to-rank.

How do you verify a doctor is real?

Every claim or new listing is checked against the National Provider Identifier (NPI) registry — the federal database the U.S. government requires every licensed healthcare provider to register in. If the NPI isn't active, the listing can't be claimed.

Who writes the profile content?

The doctor does, when they claim their listing. Unclaimed listings show only what's publicly available (name, specialty, general location) sourced from public records — never a fabricated bio.

How is this different from Healthgrades or Zocdoc?

Those are review aggregators built around patient ratings. DoctorList is a simple, free, doctor-maintained directory — no review-gating, no paid placement, and structured specifically so that both people and AI answer engines (like ChatGPT and Perplexity) can read a provider's real, self-reported information cleanly.

Who operates DoctorList?

DoctorList is operated by Visibility Protocol, a marketing agency that helps medical practices get found through search and AI. Any paid marketing relationship between Visibility Protocol and a listed practice is disclosed directly on that practice's profile.

Can I update or remove my listing?

Yes — visit your profile and use the "Update this listing" link, verify your NPI again, and submit new info. To request removal, contact Visibility Protocol directly.
